The Wegovy pill costs $149, $199 or $299 a month without insurance, depending on the strength, according to Novo Nordisk's own self-pay terms read on 30 September 2026. That headline hides one detail almost every price page misses: a bottle of Wegovy tablets is a 30-day supply, while a box of Wegovy pens is 28 days. Over a year, that difference is worth more than the monthly prices suggest.
Both oral GLP-1s priced side by side are on GLP-1 pill cost; the pen's prices are on Wegovy cost. This page is the Wegovy pill alone: the price per strength, what a year costs, the insurance card, and Medicare.
Price by strength, from the terms
| Wegovy tablets (30-tablet bottle) | 1 month | 2 months | 3 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mg | $149 | $298 | $447 |
| 4 mg | $199 | $398 | $597 |
| 9 mg | $299 | $598 | $897 |
| 25 mg | $299 | $598 | $897 |
Source: "Wegovy® Tablets Self-pay Offer Details", wegovyterms.com, read 2026-09-30. "One month defined as 1 bottle of 30 tablets."
Two things follow from the table. There is no multi-month discount — three bottles cost exactly three times one. And 9 mg and 25 mg cost the same, so the price stops climbing at the third step of the label's 30-day escalation.
A limited-time $149 price on the 4 mg bottle appears in the same terms, valid only if "your prescription is filled by 8/31/2026." That window has closed; pages still quoting $149 for 4 mg are quoting an expired offer.
What a year costs: pill against pen
Monthly prices compare a 30-day bottle with a 28-day box. Converting both to a 365-day year:
| Product | Price per fill | Days per fill | Per day | 365 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy pill 1.5 mg | $149 | 30 | $4.97 | $1,813 |
| Wegovy pill 4 mg | $199 | 30 | $6.63 | $2,421 |
| Wegovy pill 9 mg or 25 mg | $299 | 30 | $9.97 | $3,638 |
| Wegovy pen 0.25–2.4 mg (standard price) | $349 | 28 | $12.46 | $4,549 |
| Wegovy HD 7.2 mg pen | $399 | 28 | $14.25 | $5,201 |
glp1ledger arithmetic from Novo Nordisk's published self-pay prices; a year on the pen is 13.04 fills, on the pill 12.17. It excludes the pen's $199 new-patient price for the first two fills and any taxes or fees.
At maintenance strengths the pill is about $911 a year cheaper than the standard pen. Most price pages compare $299 with $349 — a $50 gap — and so understate the difference by roughly a third.
Why a $299 bottle holds 78 times the semaglutide of a $349 box
A 30-tablet bottle of Wegovy 25 mg contains 750 mg of semaglutide. A box of four 2.4 mg pens contains 9.6 mg. Per week, the pill route uses 175 mg against 2.4 mg — about 73 times as much drug.
The label explains why. The tablets are co-formulated with an absorption enhancer (SNAC), absorption "predominantly occurs in the stomach", and "absolute bioavailability of semaglutide is estimated to be approximately 1% to 2%" by mouth, against 89% by injection. The price per bottle reflects that most of the dose is never absorbed. How the tablet is made to work at all is on oral GLP-1s explained.
With commercial insurance: the $25 offer and its $100 cap
Novo's savings terms for the tablets: "Pay as little as ('PALA') $25, subject to a maximum savings of $100 per 1-month prescription … $200 per 2-month prescription, or $300 per 3-month prescription." The same 30-day definition applies.
So the offer is $25 only when the plan's copay is $125 or less. At a $150 copay the patient pays $50; at $300, $200. The offer:
- excludes "Medicaid, Medicare, VA, DOD, TRICARE, or any similar federal or state health care program" — but explicitly treats the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, Affordable Care Act exchange plans and state employee plans as commercial, so those members are not excluded;
- cannot be combined with a self-pay discount or another coupon;
- can be cut if the plan runs an accumulator or maximizer programme, in which manufacturer payments do not count towards the deductible.
Whether a plan covers the pill at all is a formulary question — see GLP-1 insurance coverage and what a prior-authorization request has to show.
With Medicare: $50 through the Bridge
NovoCare's Wegovy page asks "How do I get any dose of Wegovy® pen or pill for just $50 a month?" and answers it with the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. Wegovy.com adds the conditions: a covered FDA-approved indication, eligibility "determined by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services", and "not a guarantee of coverage." The rules are on the Bridge programme's own page. The self-pay terms separately bar Medicare members who use the cash price from counting it towards their Part D out-of-pocket total.
Where the pill is sold at these prices
The self-pay terms say the offer "may be redeemed at participating retail pharmacies", and Novo's own pharmacy, NovoCare, sells the same prices by mail, dispensed by CoAssist Pharmacy. Warehouse-club and retail channels are compared on Costco GLP-1 prices.
What the price does not tell you
- Whether the pill suits someone. The label states the tablets "have not been studied for weight reduction in adults with type 2 diabetes", and that in people with type 2 diabetes semaglutide blood levels on the 25 mg pill were lower than on the 2.4 mg injection. The trial record and the daily routine are on the Wegovy pill review; the two pills compared are on Foundayo vs Wegovy pill.
- What happens in 2027. Novo has announced a lower list price for Wegovy pens from 1 January 2027 (dated on Wegovy cost); the self-pay pill prices above carry no end date but "Novo Nordisk reserves the right to modify or cancel this program at any time."
This page reports Novo Nordisk's published prices and terms. It is not advice on which product or strength to use; that decision belongs with the prescriber.
